Photography in Amherstburg

Amherstburg has more good light than almost anywhere else in Essex County.

Between Fort Malden's open grounds, the Gordon House on Dalhousie Street, and the waterfront along the Detroit River, Amherstburg gives a portrait or couples session real variety in a single afternoon — historic architecture, open lawns, water, and a walkable downtown, all within a few blocks of each other.

Where we shoot in town

Four spots, one afternoon

This session moved through four locations without ever needing a car: the grounds at Fort Malden National Historic Site, the porch of the Gordon House — Amherstburg's oldest building, built in 1798 — the pier along the Amherstburg waterfront at the Detroit River, and the storefronts of downtown Amherstburg along Dalhousie Street.

That mix is what makes Amherstburg sessions work so well: historic backdrops for the first half of the light, open water for golden hour, and a walkable town in between. We plan the route around your session the same way, whichever spots you're drawn to.
