Corporate Headshots in Windsor, Ontario: What to Expect
Your headshot shows up in more places than almost any other photo you own — LinkedIn, your company website, email signatures, press mentions, conference bios, industry directories. And yet it's usually the photo people update least often, sometimes years after it stopped looking like them. Here's what a proper corporate headshot session actually involves, and why it's worth doing right.
Why Headshots Matter More Than People Think
A headshot is often the very first impression someone forms of you — a potential client scanning LinkedIn before a meeting, a journalist pulling a photo for an article, a new hire looking up their manager before day one. A blurry phone selfie or a five-year-old photo taken at a different job sends a small but real signal about attention to detail, and a current, professional headshot does the opposite.
What's Included in a Typical Session
A corporate headshot session usually runs 15–30 minutes per person, and covers a handful of poses and expressions (a few with a slight smile, a few more neutral/serious) against a clean, simple background — usually a solid color or softly blurred setting that won't compete with your face for attention. You'll typically receive several retouched final images to choose from, sized appropriately for both digital use (LinkedIn, websites) and print (business cards, printed materials).
Individual vs. Team Sessions
Individual headshots work well for solo professionals, executives, or anyone updating their own bio photo — these can often be booked as a shorter, focused session.
Team headshot days are common for companies wanting a consistent look across their whole staff — same background, same lighting setup, same general framing for every employee, so the final set looks cohesive on a website's "our team" page rather than like several different photoshoots stitched together. Booking a block of time on-site at your office is usually more efficient than scheduling each person separately.
How to Prepare
Wear solid colors, avoid busy patterns. The same principle from engagement photos applies here — solid, professional colors photograph more cleanly than busy prints or logos, which can look distracting in a small profile photo.
Bring a backup outfit if it's for a specific use case. If your headshot needs to work across both a formal company report and a more casual social media bio, having two outfit options gives you flexibility in the final selects.
Get a good night's sleep and stay hydrated beforehand. Simple, but it genuinely shows up in how you photograph — especially for a close-up, well-lit headshot where every detail is visible.
Think about where the photo will actually be used. A headshot for a formal industry directory might call for a slightly different expression and crop than one meant for a more approachable, personality-driven LinkedIn profile — worth mentioning to your photographer up front.
How Often Should You Update Your Headshot?
A good general rule: every 2–3 years, or any time your appearance changes meaningfully (a new hairstyle, glasses, significant change in facial hair) or you change roles/companies. A headshot that no longer looks like you undercuts the whole point of having one.
Corporate Events and Headshots Together
If you're already planning corporate event coverage — a conference, an awards night, a company milestone — it's often efficient to schedule headshot updates for staff or leadership on the same day, rather than coordinating a completely separate session later.
